David Silva will see out the season with Manchester City and will returns so that he can have a proper send-off, according to Pep Guardiola.

The Spaniard had planned to leave the club this summer after a sparkling decade of service where he has established himself as one of the greatest players in the history of City and English football. The pandemic has thrown a spanner in many football works and Silva, 34, has had to weigh up whether to continue with the Blues beyond the expiry of his initial contract and contemplate a farewell without any fans.

Clubs have until June 23 to agree short-term contracts with players that would be free agents at the end of the month and, while no announcement has been made by City, Guardiola appeared to confirm that Silva will stay.

City’s manager also paid tribute to the mark Silvahas left on the club and believes there will be something to mark his contribution with fans when the world return more to normality.

He will stay until the end of the season and it is unfortunate he is going to finish his last games here without people but he is coming back and hopefully he can have the big farewell with people,” said Guardiola.

“Always the big clubs become a huge, incredible club when they make these kind of big gestures to these incredible players for what they have done for more than one decade.
