The National Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, Prince Uche Secondus has urged the National Assembly to resist President Muhammadu Buhari and his ruling All Progressives Congress’s, incessant urge to borrow.

“They are mortgaging our future, you must resist them” Secondus stressed.

Prince Secondus said that this call is necessary and germane after it became obvious that President Buhari and his party are determined to mortgage the future of this country knowing too well that they are as good as gone in the nation’s polity.

The National Chairman told journalists after a behind the camera meeting with the PDP caucus in the Senate that the opposition is feeling concerned at the frequency of loan approval by the legislators.

President Muhammadu Buhari

A statement from the National Chairman’s media office on Thursday signed by Ike Abonyi said that Prince Secondus doubts the ability of the federal government to deploy the loans well.

“We feel going by the experience of their inability to properly account for previous loans that the borrowed funds are going into wrong hands and inside private pockets.

“This government lacks the needed capacity to appropriately utilize these funds because of poor control and inherent corruption in the system under their watch.

Prince Secondus also said that the party leadership stressed to its members in the National Assembly the overwhelming importance of the electoral reform and the need to amend the Electoral Act urgently.

“Given what we saw in 2019 which was why the President refused to endorse the amended electoral act from the 8th Assembly, 2023 will be endangered without the amendment of the Electoral Act.

The opposition party leader commended the efforts of its members in the Senate in frequently highlighting the flaws of this government noting that Nigerians are watching and recording that “you are playing your role of having your say even if majority won’t let you have our way”

The meeting which was attended by National Chairman and members of the National Working Committee, NWC, and all Senators elected on the platform of the PDP led by the Senate Minority leader, Senator Enyinna Abaribe also discussed other vital issues concerning the party aimed at enhancing unity and harmony in the party.

Signed.
